Dog Handler Faces Animal Cruelty Charges
A dog trainer in Singapore stands accused of animal cruelty after a disturbing video surfaced online. The footage, taken last year, shows a dog cowering in fear as it’s repeatedly struck with a metal bowl.
Identified Suspect
The alleged assailant has been identified as Ng Zhaohui Matthew, a 39-year-old dog trainer employed at the K9 Connection dog training center.
Video Evidence
The video, posted on the Facebook page ‘Chained Dog Awareness in Singapore’, has sparked outrage among animal rights activists. In the clip, a voice is heard uttering, “Welcome to hell, my friend. Four weeks of hell!” as the dog whimpers and attempts to escape the assault.

Investigation and Suspension
Upon being alerted to the incident, Singapore’s Animal and Veterinary Service (AVS) launched an investigation and suspended Ng from their list of accredited dog trainers. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) also assisted in the investigation.
Statement from SPCA
“We are deeply disturbed by the actions portrayed in the video,” said Ms. Aarthi Sankar, executive director of the SPCA. “They are both abusive towards animals and insensitive towards humans. We fear that the perpetrator may have subjected other animals under his care to similar treatment.”
Return of Dog
AVS has since secured the return of the abused dog to its owner, ensuring its safety.
Legal Proceedings
On November 29th, prosecutors with the National Parks Board (NParks) announced that the case will be heard again in January. If convicted of animal cruelty, Ng could face significant penalties, including imprisonment for up to two years or a fine of $30,000 USD, or both.
Importance of Animal Protection
This incident highlights the critical importance of protecting animals from abuse and neglect. Organizations like the AVS and SPCA play a vital role in investigating and prosecuting such cases.
